If you can’t do it without suffering, It’s not your job. Find new work.

Okay me, listen up:

If you can’t think about it without constantly suffering, it’s NOT YOUR JOB to think about it (at least for now). You’re doing someone else’s job. Find new work.

There is diversity in the human population for a reason: to get it all done. There are people to do that job who are ENERGIZED by it. There are people doing that work who see things the way you do, whose standards match or exceed yours and who come ALIVE when they do that work.

Knock off your suffering and leave it to them.

The world will not fall apart if you walk away from the work that depletes you or makes you feel frayed or on edge. Not only will it not fall apart, when you stop injecting suffering into it with your painful meddling, it will be free to come together. On everyone’s behalf. Including yours.

The world is served by everyone doing what makes them come alive, what brings them peace and makes them feel like a part of the world around them. The work that makes you come alive keeps you showing up, keeps you excited for challenges and leaves you always wanting more. You can do that work better, for longer than the people who suffer from it.

And here’s the thing: a lot of people would suffer doing the work that makes you come alive. It depletes them. It makes them feel frayed or on edge. They need YOU to do it.

So do the world a favor: give yourself and everyone else a break. Put down the stressful work, leave it to the people who love it, and serve the world by doing what makes you come alive.

“But I HAVE to do this work!”

Is it true? Be really honest with yourself.
